Targeting the Obesity - Pancreatic Cancer Stem Cell Link

Ruben R. Gonzalez-Perez, Ph.D., in the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry, & Immunology was awarded a Developmental Research Program Award in the amount of $25,000, to support his pilot project, "Targeting the obesitypancreatic cancer stem cell link."

Ruben R. Gonzalez-Perez, Ph.D., in the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry, & Immunology was awarded a grant from the 榴莲视频/Tuskegee University/University at Birmingham Comprehensive Cancer Center U54 Grant Partnership. The grant is a Pilot Proposal entitled 鈥溾滾eptin-Notch axis in pancreatic cancer.鈥 The grant has a direct cost of $224,000 for two years plus indirect costs. The notice of award was received last week.

Health Disparities Research Training Award Program (HDRTP) Scholar

Dr. Adriana Harbuzariu, Postdoctoral Fellow for Dr. Ruben Gonzalez, was selected as a (HDRTP) scholar for 2 years! (Only awarded this year from MSM). In the second year, she will receive $10,000 for research upon completion of the first year of training.

The American Society for Topical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) and the Young Investigator Award Committee has chosen Carmen M. Dickinson-Copeland, Ph.D. candidate, as one of five recipients for the Society鈥檚 2014 Young Investigator Award for research presented at the annual meeting held on November 2 through 6, 2014, in New Orleans, La.
