Curriculum
The MSM Public Health and General Preventive Medicine Residency (PMR) Program is a two-year program that offers residents the opportunity to integrate a practicum with academic work towards the degree of the online Executive Master of Public Health (eM.P.H.). Residents spend a total of two years completing the intermeshed academic and practicum year requirements at ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ. Both the academic and practicum programs have been designed with enough scheduling flexibility to accommodate dual enrollment of residents.

Practicum Components
The practicum component of the Morehouse in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine Residency Program is comprised of seven (7) rotations and weekly half-day clinical assignments. Five (5) of the eight (8) rotations correspond to the five (5) major component areas of preventive medicine and are required of all residents regardless of degree status:
- Epidemiology/Biostatistics Part 1 (Epidemiologic Study)
- Epidemiology/Biostatistics Part 2 (Outbreak Investigations & Surveillance)
- Health Administration/Management/Policy
- Environmental and Occupational health
- Clinical Preventive Medicine
- Longitudinal Social/Cultural/Behavioral Determinants of Health

Special Studies & Major Area of Concentration
The Special Studies and Major Area of Concentration electives allow residents to acquire additional knowledge and skills in one (1) of the five (5) component areas of public health.
- Health Policy & Advocacy - This rotation provides learners with knowledge of the policymaking process and the leadership skills needed to develop meaningful community partnerships and to inform policies to improve the health of their patients and communities.

Residents engage in direct patient care throughout the residency during the weekly clinic assignments and through the completion of the Clinical Preventive Medicine and Occupational Medicine Rotations listed above.
Academic Components
Residents who enter the program without the MPH degree must complete the online Master of Public Health Program (eMHP) that is provided through the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ Master of Public Health (MPH) Program. Quality Improvement (QI) Requirements
Residents develop proficiency in QI knowledge and skills through participation in didactic sessions focused on the fundamentals of patient safety and quality improvement, through the development and implementation of a quality improvement project at the Atlanta Veterans Administration Healthcare Center or a program-affiliated clinical site and through attendance at ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ patient safety and quality improvement lectures.
Additional educational requirements are listed below:
- An elective in one of the core component areas of preventive medicine.
- Weekly didactic sessions covering various topics in public health and preventive medicine.
Special Areas of Training
This program offers additional areas of specialized training in public health and preventive medicine with a concentration in the area of cancer control & prevention research and maternal health.
