Global Health Programs
Our international programs, such as the HIV/AIDS Project in Lusaka, Zambia, help to address the growing and long-standing health issues across the globe. The HIV/AIDS Project is one of many MSM initiatives to address complex global health equity challenges.
Optimizing HIV Related Clinical Outcomes with Better Care Coordination in Kanyama Level I Hospital’s ART Department and throughout the Lusaka District of Zambia
Through our work with the HBCU Global Health Consortium (HBCU GHC), The National Center for Primary Care is implementing a workplan in Lusaka, Zambia to train healthcare workers within high-burden HIV clinical settings. In conjunction with the other HBCU GHC members (Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, Howard University College of Medicine, and Meharry Medical College) the programs are designed to contribute to the reduction of stigma and discrimination, while providing pinpointed mentorship and training on social determinants of health within the context of each location that affect health outcomes within the HIV care continuum.
Ultimately, the goal is to improve the quality of healthcare through a hub-and-spoke model between the Consortium members throughout the Lusaka District.
MSM’s Contributions to the UNAIDS 95-95-95 Targets
MSM will support the 1st 95 target for early initiation of ART and improvement of retention in care for the 2nd and 3rd 95 targets as through:
- Increased efficiency for optimal HIV patient care and outcomes
- Addressing and reducing the lost to follow-up in newly initiated and/or un-stabilized clients through utilization of digital technology and optimization of referral systems
