Alumni Learning Community FAQs

What is an Alumni Learning Community?

The Alumni Learning Community (ALC) is a pipeline initiative that will assist Morehouse School of Medicine in alumni engaging students underrepresented in medicine and the biomedical sciences and those from underserved communities in outreach activities designed to mentor them as they work to pursue careers in the health professions and biomedical research.

How will Alumni be involved?

Alumni in the ALCS will serve as mentors of their learning community, motivating them to continue on a path of academic excellence and completion of their education, advising them on application and successful matriculation in health professions schools and inspiring a passion of service to the underserved.

What types of activities will Alumni participate in?

Alumni may participate in a variety of activities such as giving seminars on a day in the life of a physician/biomedical scientist/public health practitioner, successful interviewing skills, planning for a college or health professions school education, ethical behavior in the health professions workplace, being successful on the MCAT/GRE or how to do a heath fair or community service project.

What resources will be available?

Alumni will be provided with tool kits, resources that will be available on their own share Point site accessed through the MSM web page.  Items such as power point presentations, handouts, and essential links will be available to download to assist in student advisement and mentoring.  Additionally, a dedicated project coordinator located at ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ will be available to assist with questions or concerns.

How much time will it take?

Alumni can volunteer for as much or as little time as they would like.  The Alumni Learning Community promises to be a rewarding experience for alumni and students alike, allowing alumni the opportunity to contribute further in service to their communities through their Alma mater.
