Student Learning Outcomes
The faculty of ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ's Division of Graduate Education in Biomedical Sciences (GEBS) has adopted a set of educational goals, objectives, and student learning outcomes for the six (6) degree programs that are offered. The specified goals and objectives are common to all of the GEBS degree programs. GEBS faculty have established program-specific student learning outcomes as indicated.

Students who graduate from the ÁñÁ«ÊÓƵ's Division of Graduate Education in BIomedical Sciences (GEBS) will possess a deep understanding of biological science, will engage in scientific inquiry and research, and will apply content and research expertise to the advancement of biomedical disciplines. Program graduates will exhibit the skills necessary to effectively communicate knowledge and research outcomes to scientific peers and public stakeholders. Additionally, graduates will demonstrate a commitment to the application of biomedical science in the improvement of health disparities.
The education objectives common to all degree programs are to:
- Promote a deep and integrated understanding of the biological sciences and their implication to the advancement of health and biomedical science.
- Strengthen critical analysis and reasoning skills and the application of these skills to the design and execution of scientific inquiry relevant to specific biomedical disciplines.
- Generate and effectively communicate scientific knowledge relevant to specific biomedical disciplines.
- Develop a commitment to life-long learning and career pursuits within health and biomedical science disciplines.
- Foster a commitment to health equity.
Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences
Upon completion of the Ph.D. program, students will have the proven knowledge, skills, and attitudes to:
Knowledge
- Apply a broad knowledge of biomedical sciences and human disease in scholarly discussions and collaborations with colleagues across biomedical science.
- Draw from a deep knowledge within specific science disciplines to investigate fundamental mechanisms of health and disease.
- Integrate new biomedical knowledge and emerging technologies in their professional practice.

Master of Science in Biomedical Research
Upon completion of the Master of Science in Biomedical Research program, students will have the proven knowledge, skills, and attitudes to:

discussions and collaborations with colleagues across biomedical science.
2. Use advanced biomedical science knowledge to understand and investigate disease
processes.
3. Integrate new biomedical knowledge and emerging technologies in their professional

Skills

5. Apply fundamental concepts in the core areas of biomedical sciences to a research
problem in their chosen area of research.
6. Demonstrate the ability to formulate adequate scientific questions to solve specific

7. Apply laboratory skills such as planning of experiments, data acquisitions, data
management, analysis and interpretation to a specific research problem.

Master of Science in Biomedical Technology
Upon completion of the Master of Science in Biomedical Technology program, students will have the proven knowledge, skills, and attitudes to:

2. Develop a broad understanding of core technologies needed for the support of research
in biomedical sciences.
3. Develop a deep knowledge of more specific biomedical technologies to provide expert
solutions to a focused range of biomedical problems.

Master of Science in Clinical Research
Upon completion of the Master of Science in Clinical Research program, students will have the proven knowledge, skills and attitudes to:
Knowledge
- Distinguishes between various types of Clinical Translational Research and the basic principles associated with each of them.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental concepts of biostatistics.
- Identify the basis concepts, determinants, and ways to measure distribution of traits and diseases in human populations.
- Identify various study designs, settings, and databases that are useful in the evaluation of clinical interventions.
Skills
5. Effectively design and conduct human experiments.
6. Develop a hypothesis with a data set and perform appropriate statistical tests
of the hypothesis.
7. Identify a hypothesis, select an appropriate study design, and collect data
to test the hypothesis.
8. Use web-based and other types of medical informatics to facilitate research.
9. Use database management and statistical software to organize and analyze data.

Master of Science in Medical Science
Upon completion of the Master of Science in Medical Sciences program, students will have the proven knowledge, skills, and attitudes to:

- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of molecules, cells, tissue, organs, and systems of the human body and their interrelationships.
- Describe, in detail, physiology and pathophysiology of the organs and systems of the human biology.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental concepts of biostatistics.
- Demonstrate cultural competence in addressing issues of community and public health.

5. Critically analyze medical practice and research literature from a variety of
sources and in variety of media formats.
6. Design and test hypotheses, analyze results, and effectively communicate findings
relative to biomedical and public health topics.

Master of Science in Neuroscience
Upon completion of the Master of Science in Neuroscience program, students will have the proven knowledge, skills and attitudes to:
Knowledge
- Develop a basis of understanding of excitable cell physiology and detailed exposure to various neuroscience research areas and neuroscience techniques.
- Describe the mechanisms involved in neurobiological disease, mental disorders and potential treatments.
- Integrate new knowledge of basic neurobiological function and emerging neuroscience technologies with an emphasis on experimental design and critical thinking in their professional practice.
- Demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate the scientific literature.
Skills
5. Apply fundamental concepts of neuroscience and neuroscience techniques to a research

6. Demonstrate the ability to formulate adequate scientific questions and experimental
design to solve specific research problems related to neuroscience.
